TUTORIAL: Knitting With Beads

Image
Many of you have asked me to share my technique for knitting with beads. Ask and thou shall receive!

In the tutorial above, I'll show you how to add a little sparkle to your lace with the use of a little dark craft otherwise known as (knitters, brace yourselves) crochet!

All you'll need is a US size 10 (1.30 mm) crochet hook and size 6/0 beads ... and perhaps a little patience. Remember, practice makes perfect! Once you get the swing of it, knitting with beads will become second nature.

Recipe: Lentil Salad

Image
As promised, here is a recipe for my version of Lentil Salad!

When Dennis and I were living in Greenpoint, I used to grab weekend lunch at this place called The Garden. They made an awesome green lentil salad and would order it all the time!

Bushwick isn't that far from our old neighborhood, but not so easy to get to by subway. Needless to say, visits to my favorite lunch spot are pretty rare. So I took it upon myself to whip up my very own homemade lentil salad and who knew? It's pretty darn close, and super easy!

I usually make a giant bowl of it and eat for lunch during the week. Call me crazy, but I just don't tire of it.

Ingredients:
2 cups,  uncooked lentis (1 lb / 16oz bag)1 red onion, diced1 1/2 cups, cherry tomatoes halved1 large raw carrot, grated / shredded1/2 cup cilantro, chopped6 Tbsp, plain white vinegar6 Tbsp, lemon juice6 Tbsp, red wine vinegar4 Tbsp, extra virgin olive oil1 Tbsp, garlic powder 1 Tbsp, Kosher Salt (or to taste)1 Tbsp, ground black pepper …

ON THE NEEDLES
Lynai Socks, Across the UniverseLattice Shawl by Maria MontzkaI ended up frogging the version I cast on using O Wool yarn and cast on a new version using Brooklyn Tweed Loft. I will be using the "Postcard" colorway for the body and "Fossil" for the applied border. Campside Shawl by Alicia PlummerI'm knitting this pattern with my own hand dyed yarn, Voolenvine Yarns in the "Ocean in a Shell" colorway. I haven't been making much progress on it and to be honest, I'm not crazy about the knitting process — finding it a little under-challenging. I plan to cast on my Featherweight cardigan today or tomorrow using some Blue Moon Fiber Arts, Socks That Rock Lightweight in their "Blecker" colorway for the Little Bobbins KAL.
SIDE CRAFTING

I created a mini cross stitch for our new powder room, using a pattern from Andwabisabi on Etsy

Episode 151: Two FOs and a Flood

Image
Settling into our new home continues to be a little rocky. We experienced a minor flood in our basement, during heavy rainfall over the weekend. No damage (thankfully) but still lots of work to be done around the house.

On a happier note, my in-laws came to stay with us and had a great time!

OFF THE NEEDLES

A Thing For String Socks - I gifted them to my MIL and were received very well. Yay!

Canopy Shawl- I love, love, LOVE the way this knit up! Will definitely get lots of wear this summer. (I get cold ... a lot!)

I also dyed up some of my "Ocean In a Shell" colorway on DK to knit a Campside shawl.

ON THE NEEDLES

Lynai Yarns Socks - "Across the Universe"

Cozy Memories Blanket - I added 4 news squares including some handspun, more yarn from Lynai Yarns, On the Round, and Republic of Wool.
