Weekend Knitting Update

Image
First, thanks to everyone who contacted me to suggest restaurants and yarn shops to visit while in San Francisco! I've made a list and definitely intend on hitting a few of them up! Also, thanks to those who filled me in on the whole TSA/Knitting thing. Apparently, wooden knitting needles are permitted! Just to be safe, I've printed out the page that says so (thanks hotpinksocks!) and invested in a lovely pair of US 1 bamboo dpns! As for whether I'm opting for the X-Ray / Pat-down security check, that's TBD.

Does this photo not wreak of manliness?
It's the weekend before Thanksgiving and there's lots to do! Thankfully, I don't have much else planned this weekend (ie, friend / family get-togethers, birthdays, shindigs... the usual stuff that hogs up one's weekend) so I can get stuff done! -- that is if I can break away from knitting just for a bit!

WHAT'S STITCHING:

These past few weeks I punched out 2 pairs of vanilla socks using both the Knitmore Girl's Vanilla Sock Pattern and the Yarn Harlot's Sock Recipe from her book Knitting Rules.
Knitting-Help.com has a great video tutorial on how to do the Kitchener stitch!
I'm also knitting a pair of Selbu Mittens as part of a KAL with Susie aka KnittingKnoobie!

It's been an relatively-- how should I put this?... Interesting Knitcation?
It's amazing how time flies the older you get. At 27, there aren't enough hours in a day anymore! Where oh where does the time go? And to think I spent most of that time knitting socks! S.O.C.K.S! SocksSOCKS! -- The one knitted garment I avoided like the plague! Now it seems I can't get enough of them.

Maybe it was the post Rhinebeck yarn overload, or stressing over a few incorrect rows on my Orchid Thief Shawl (Which is still only a few rows short of being cast off!), or that I had a skein of yarn I was crazy about but didn't know what else to knit with it.

For whatever reason, there was something about knitting a sock that appealed to me at the moment. I didn't even want to knit a fancy sock, with cables or lace.... just a plain, vanilla sock. So I cast on, and after I got past the k2, p2 ribbing, and an inch into plain stockinette, I couldn't stop watching this thing grow. The color…
